{Saturday Jukebox} Mel Torme, Comin Home Baby

A stylish and sophisticated track for your Saturday afternoon listening pleasure...

Bargain Vinyl

Leah dragged me off to some charity shops today, so whilst she browsed through the pictures, trinkets and other bits and bobs I busied myself with the Vinyl box!

At £1 each these are great additions to my collection (and a bargain as 3 of them are full albums!) and whilst they might be a bit on the cheesy side it's good to have them just incase!

My top track from each record...
Billy Idol - White Wedding
Katrina & the Waves - Walking on Sunshine
Lionel Richie - All Night Long
Abba - Does Your Mother Know

Hope you're having a great weekend!

The first dance files - case study 2, Can You Feel The Love Tonight

Welcome to Part 2 of the First Dance Files!
It was with disbelief that I found this on one of the "most popular first dance choices" lists that I came across. I can't believe that anyone could be THIS cheesy... could they??

The offending choice is 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight' by Elton John, from the soundtrack of Disney movie, The Lion King.

It's just so wrong! Unless your names are Simba and Nala then just don't do it!!

The only thing worse than this would be 'A Whole New World', from Aladdin.

The first dance files - case study 1, Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now

After browsing the internet for popular first dance choices, I'm shocked by what i've uncovered! Most of the lists are really outdated and filled with cheesy songs that I'm sure most self respecting brides and grooms would never choose for their first dance nowadays.

Over the next few weeks I'm going to be naming and shaming the worst of the worst in a series of blog posts, and also collecting up YOUR first dance choices to end with my own hot & not first dance lists.

The first of my case studies starts with a BIG repeat offender - Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now by Starship.

Sorry guys, this has to be one of the worst first dance choices ever. There's nothing worse that watching a bride and groom shuffle awkwardly around a dancefloor to this!

The terrible lyrics just scream CHEESE!

"let em say we're crazy
I don't care about that
put your hand in my hand baby
don't ever look back"

Don't do it!

What's with the name??

So why 'Scratch' I hear you ask?

As you may know (if you have read my about me page) not only am I a Wedding & Event DJ but I'm also in my third year of studying Music Technology & Innovation at university, as well as being an aspiring drum and bass DJ and producer.

Recently I've been studying turntablism, which is the art of manipulating sounds and creating music using turntables and a mixer, which i've thoroughly enjoyed. I watched the following documentary, Scratch, numerous times!

Around this time my girlfriend and I bought a puppy, and we wanted to give him a name that was related to something we loved. As we both love music, we sat down and tried to think of a name that was music/DJ related, and finally came up with Scratch :)

So when it came to naming the business we had no trouble in coming up with the name!

I'm also offering the option to have actual turntables as part of the DJ package so that you and your guests can have an authentic DJ experience, so Scratch fits in really well with this, too!

I probably won't be doing any scratching at weddings though! :)
